Bio

Manal Husain is a Toronto-based photographer, born and raised in Kuwait. She holds a certificate from the Formative Arts Institute in Kuwait, where she studied sketching, and watercolour and portrait photography in 2006 and 2007. Manal started her career as a photojournalist for several Kuwaiti newspapers, including Al-Kuwaitiya, Laylina and Al-Qabas, where she was the editor of pages on community events, celebrity news and local photography. In 2010 Manal began exploring commercial photography through her manager studio practice, before moving on to work as Senior Photographer at the Seynar Group for Marketing and Branding, where she managed a group of photographers and videographers. In addition to her commercial practice, Manal's personal artistic interests lie in the area of documentary and street photography, as well as portraiture. Her work has been shown in multiple exhibitions in Kuwait, and garnered critical acclaim, winning a contest at the Hayat al-Nass Magazine in Saudi Araba, in 2008. Upon her relocation to Toronto in 2017, Manal has continued exploring these interests through self-directed documentary-style work. She is currently creating new body of work, inspired by Toronto street life.
